MGB
<--PREVIOUS--NEXT-->
photo and text by Marsha Johnson
This is one of the MGBs we have owned. It was in pretty good basic shape when we bought it, but it had something wrong with the throw-out bearing in the clutch, so Ken just decided to remove the entire engine along with the transmission, to tear it all down. As he rebuilt the engine, he repainted parts of it to their original colors. The valve-train cover was even a muted turquoise color, and the engine block was a carmine red color. With the engine out, he repainted the inside of the engine compartment. Man, that's the ONLY way to do that right. When it got all back together, it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The paint was so good that we didn't want to take the chance of driving it. We ended up selling it through a consignment agency to a fellow in Switzerland. At the time, it brought one of the highest prices ever paid in the US for an MGB, because we had restored it to better than new. Unfortunately, we don't have that kind of energy now to do that. (Maybe it's just the wisdom of old age!) Anyway, the kids are ours - Lucas at about 11 years, and Kelly (head sticking out of the driver window) was 1. Of course, they are 10 years older than that now!
