1992 Ford Probe GL
owned by Steve Wingate, webmaster of TCGOB from 1993 to 1997
I bought this car in early 1993 after months of searching for an affordable and practical, yet sporty little car. It was pretty much the standard Probe with the 1.8 liter 4 cylinder and a five-speed manual transmission. It doesn't show very well in the photos, but the car was a nearly electric shade of blue. The odometer has just rolled over 13K when I bought it, and I drove it until it had 156K. The Probe had the honor of traveling through more than half of the continental United States. It was not a very quick car, but it had a sure-footed, confident feel for the road. Sadly, the car was wrecked in October of 1994. Giving new meaning to the slogan "Ford Tough", I drove it home from what could have been a fatal accident. Click here to read that story.
